With the implementation and development of new information technologies, internet traffic has seen a significant increase in recent years, which has implicitly led to an increase in the number of accesses and sales in the online environment.

Due to this fact, statistical data demonstrates that the current moment is favorable for having a representative online environment, so if you do not already own a website for a business, but wish to take this step, Hostico provides you with all the services and tools necessary for your project to be online in the shortest time possible.

In the following, we will highlight the main aspects that define the concept and functionality of web domains on the internet.

I. What is a web domain?

Web domains or domain names are reserved names at accredited registrars for fixed periods of time, primarily aimed at correlating a physical address of the web server with the chosen term/terms.

In short, the domain is the address we enter in the browser's address bar when we want to access a web page (e.g.: google.com, facebook.com, hostico.ro).

If the domain name system did not exist, each web page would have to be accessed by the physical address of the server it is on (e.g. 12.345.678), you can imagine why the functionality of a website is conditioned by its name, and the absence of it would only cause confusion.

II. How do I manage a domain name?

The process by which a person or a legal entity acquires a domain is called registration. As mentioned before, domain registration is done for fixed periods (minimum 1 year), and it must be renewed later if there is a desire to continue keeping it.

What do we do if we purchase a domain from a company and decide that we want to move the service to another provider for various reasons, is there a way to do that?

In the vast majority of extensions, yes. Transferring a domain is a simple process that usually involves only generating a transfer code, but there are also exceptional situations that require additional procedures.

III. What should a domain contain?

Choosing a domain name is a personal decision and can include any desired terms, (as long as it does not violate legal provisions) however, it is advisable that the chosen name is easy to remember and representative of the activity performed.

A concrete example is the website you are currently on: hostico.ro.
If we had opted for a more complex name like: gazduiredomeniicertificatehostico.ro, you probably wouldn’t have reached this article for obvious reasons.

The domain name can become a brand if chosen wisely, and a large part of the traffic will be due to this fact.

IV. How to choose the right extension?

Through collaborative partnerships with accredited domain registrars, Hostico offers the possibility of registering over 140 extensions from all areas of activity.

Even though a high number of extensions seems like an advantage at first glance, there may be uncertainty about which option is the right one for the activity performed.
We will further analyze the situations commonly encountered when registering domains:

The target audience is from Romania:

Most situations fall into this category. We purchase a hosting package, choose the domain name, and directly select the .ro option.

If you are just starting out and do not plan to "conquer" the internet with multiple websites, you can't go wrong with a .ro domain.

As long as the published content targets the Romanian-speaking population, this extension is the right answer.

The target audience is from Europe:

Here there are usually more options, but most people choose the .eu extension. Hostico recommends purchasing this extension if the activity is limited to the European Union or if you do not want to be limited only to the .ro extension.

The target audience is from a certain country:

Most countries in the world have their own extension that can be used for the domain name. For example: if you sell oranges in Spain or dates in Greece, you can choose the extensions .es and .gr respectively, thus being much closer to your chosen target audience.

The target audience is global:

In this sphere, choosing the extension will not be very difficult since there is an undisputed king, represented by the .com extension. The difficulty here will be the availability of the desired name.

Many of the common names have already been registered on the .com extension, so if this option is not available, Hostico offers you the possibility to register on the .net or .org variants.

It is recommended that websites registered under the extensions .com, .net, or .org be in English to cover a broader spectrum of clients.

The target audience is specialized:

If the site is intended to be a simple blog or a presentation page for a dental office, Hostico.ro is here to help with specialized extensions such as .blog or .dentist.

With specialty extensions, you will make the chosen name much easier to remember, thus the brand in question having a major advantage.

As you can see, there is a suitable domain for each website, you just need to choose the correct option for the field of activity provided.
