Backup - Automatic, encrypted, incremental and FREE
General Information
Bareos is a complex backup system composed of 3 distinct components, which together fulfill the role of creating, recovering, and verifying backups on both Linux and Windows.
Depending on the role fulfilled by the components, each is installed on a standalone device, leading to a separation of tasks and the resources on which these tasks will run.
The variety of configuration options for the 3 components brings, respectively offers a complexity and versatility that allows for the implementation of backup systems that fit perfectly in the used environment.
Due to the fast and minimally resource-consuming technique, backups on Hostico servers run at least once a day, reaching up to four runs per day in certain cases.
Servers
Backup storage servers are purpose-built servers specifically designed for this task and do not run other applications or services.
Security
- the backups performed are encrypted for an enhanced level of security
- physical access to backup servers as well as to any other equipment in the Hostico network is only possible for accredited members of the Hostico team
- periodic backup file maintenance work is performed / they are rotated for better functionality and it is possible in these situations that the backup may not be available up to 14 days back but only up to 5-10.
Accessibility
- currently the backups are not accessible to clients and can only be restored by members of the technical team
Recommendations
We recommend that clients always keep a copy of their files/databases as it is possible that in some situations the backup may not run or may run incorrectly; therefore, we cannot guarantee the existence of a backup from a specific day/hour or its validity.
The possibility of losing data simultaneously from both application servers and backup servers is unlikely but not impossible, and therefore we have some general recommendations for performing your own backups.
- before leaving on vacation or when absent for a longer period of time in case the site will not be checked during that time
- before making any changes or updates - periodically depending on the level of changes made to files / database
- The created backup must be downloaded and stored on the personal computer or uploaded to another online medium for safety
Limitations
- backups made externally are available for the last 14 calendar days
- backups stored on shared hosting accounts and on Hostico VPSs must be limited to a single copy of a website, applications, or databases
- restoration of data stored on the backup server is free but limited to 3 restorations per day for the same group or subgroup of data regardless of the selected restoration period. Any additional restoration request will be made through purchased support hours
Liability
Hostico does not assume responsibility for:
- partial or complete lack of backup
- the absence of a backup from a certain period
- partial or total corruption of the backup
- any other software or hardware malfunction that affects the proper functioning of the backup process
- the discrepancy of data from a backup made during a certain period and the data present in the client's files/databases at that time
It is the client's responsibility to ensure that they always have a backup copy of the data they hold.
